Hi,

I was wondering if anyone who has the new LG 9800 phone/device can tell me how it is? I have a set of questions below that I hope will help me decide on if I should buy this phone. I hope it helps others to... so , please answer as many as you can. ~Many thanks!!!

*Please use the scale of 1 - 10 where applicable. 1 - being not at all or NO >to> 10 - being very much so, so awesome I almost... or YES.

1. Do you like it? (1 - 10)
2. How easy is it to make phone calls and log new entries? (1 - 10)
3. What is your favorite feature? and what rating do you give it? (1 - 10)
4. How often do you go on the web with the phone? daily, weekly...etc.?
5. Is the mobile web easy to access and use? (1 - 10)
6. What other devices would you say this phone can replace? PDA, daily planner, Blackberry...etc.? and how well does it perform the function? (1 - 10)

7. Are you Male or Female? (We are all aware that guys and gals have significantly different tastes and opinions:) so this question kinda is important.

8. SIZE MATTERS! Please tell me if the size of this device is too big, too small or just right. Any other comments on SIZE are appreciated.

I have one myself and love it, If your looking for a case for it I use the PDASIDEPOUCH that they sell at verizon, It's a little bit bigger than the phone but it is a nice fit. I would tell you to go and check it out at a VZW store near you.

Does anyone know if it will be picked up by other carriers? I love the phone, but Verizon's 10 cent text messaging fee is a bit heavy for me. Sorta defeats the whole purpose of a QWERTY keyboard in my opinion.

You can't hang your "chubby" on your belt unless the case is made from a corpse? What a @#$@ tool.

So far the reviews I have read say this phone is great. I currently have the discontinued LG VX 6000 model. The thing still works great but I'd like to have email capabilities too and your average web surfing for movie times and ebay..lol. I really like LG's phones so this looks like the one for me.

Agreed - text messaging costs alot of money - even with most plans...it's just overkill! I'd rather email my frends or <gasp> CALL THEM!

How do you like the web surfing on this phone? Do the colors and graphics show up?

What type of operating system does the JG9800 use? I have a Treo 650 and like the free Palm OS software I can put into it.

http://us.lge.com/vx9800demo/proddetail.do.html

This page includes a newly added flash demo of the phone accessing email and MP3's. I found it helpful. I haven't seen what OS this phone uses (I doubt it is Palm capable) nor do I know the cost of web surfing...only that it is a cheaper reoccuring cost than text messaging.

I didn't see anything about WiFi on that link about the 9800. It does V-cast. Verizon offered me V-cast for $15 a month.

For my Treo 650, Verizon wanted $45/month for unlimited web access and $25/month for 10 megbytes per month. The Treo 650 can do full web access just like surfing on a pc. V-cast offers clips of news and movie leaders and trailers. It's not the same as full web access.

I kinda like the HP pocket ipaq PCs since they can do WiFi.

I have a bluetooth and wireless on my laptop and it hook right in along with all the other perks it has to go with it. A great investment on my part.

My friend showed me how to get of so Vz web use too so that will save on the monthly bill.

Hey i just bought mine, its amazing i dont know what those ****ers are complaining about, i think it rocks. I have more fun with that phone than other phones, its def worth the price. I wanted something fun and important, and i found it. Make sure you get the Vcast and internet package aswell otherwise the phone is boring, but with the mini s card, you can put 5000 songs or like a moive or w/e you want on it, its ****ing dope, do it for sure

Hi,

All the multi-media functions look amazing & I've heard great things, but I'm curious about the more practicle functions.....I'm wondering how the addressbook & calendar features work. I have found conflicting info on how many names can be stored in the addressbook as well...500 in one place & 1000 in another. Also can it store street addresses (more than one per entry)? I'm used to a Palm, what do people think about the Treo v. the 9800?Thanks for the input.

The one thing I'd say I don't like is Verizon charges each IM message as a text message, so even if you do have a text messaging plan, you are bound to go over and get charged up the @$$, defeating the purpose of IM'ing (which is supposed to be free). Other then that, the phone is great. I use pretty much every feature. There's even something called a "business card reader" which is where you take a picture of a business card, then transporting the info from that image into your addrses book. That feature kinda works, I haven't played w/it too much. LOL

i just purchased this phone also. Im still trying to get used to some of the features. I jsut have a few questions.

I had internet on my old phone but i think it was only like 5 bucks a month. I dont beleive it was mobile web 2.0. Ive used the internet on the 9800 a couple times but i dont beleive i have any type of internet plan. Am i being charged by the minute for that use? If soo how much is a monthly internet plan?

Can you really put movies on these things? If so how many on lets say a 512mb memory card. And what type of media player does the phone use to play it or do you have to save one on the memory card?

Is there any way i can transfer all the documents from my old LG phone to this one? Like my games, contacs, and pictures?

How much is V cast a month?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

The MP3 player has problems. It only holds 6 songs on my 1GB MiniSD card that I inserted into the phone.

I'm trying to decide between LG 9800, the Motorola e815 and the LG 8100.

The thing that concerns me about the 9800 is the monthly costs associated with using the phone.

Besides the cost of my minutes, I think I'm looking at:

$5.00 for the cheapest text messaging plan
$15.00 for VCast
$5.00 for Mobile Web 2.0
$19.99 for Internet Wireless Sync

Forget that. Do you have to pay for the Internet Wireless Sync in order to send and receive email? I'm only looking at using it for email a few times a week. $19.99 seems a bit steep for that. What are my options? Also, does anyone know how much it costs to send and receive pictures. I can't find any picture messaging plans (only text msging plans) on Verizon's site. Thanks!

That's nice I currently have somewhere in the vicinity of 60 or so and have had literally hundreds on my 1 GB card

If you e-mail provider has web-based e-mail its not a problem at all -- most of the broadband providers e-mails are available via web -- Comcast, Charter, Insight, BellSouth.... Yahoo mail, G-Mail, etc also work fine without the Sync.

Except for the minutes, I only have the $15 VCast VPak and a $10 text/picture messaging plan (there are cheaper txt plans). Mobile Web 2.0 is included in the VPak, and MW2 is able to pick up and send from my proprietary email account with the Mail2Wap feature (I have my own domain and separate email provider, eg., I'm picking up "me@my_domain.com" email with the 9800).

For gmail users who normally use Outlook or another email client to access gmail, the situation with this phone couldn't be better because you can get your Outlook contacts, in all their clickable glory, on your phone through gmail. Just export your Outlook (or whatever) contacts into a csv file, import the file into gmail and the next time you're away from your computer, fire up the 9800 web browser, log into gmail.com and you'll be able to get your email and your contacts--and everything's clickable: email addresses of course, but street addresses can dump into Google Local or directions, and click on the phone number and--you guessed it, your phone dials the number.

I am not paying for the wireless sync capability. That would be nice to have -- keep everything synced up nicely instead of fiddling around with these workarounds, but I don't think I'll be using email that much to justify the cost. It's a nice feature, though.

Verizon salespeople and the folks at 611 are still getting up to speed on this phone. Lots of conflicting info out there and some of it wrong. I had to talk to several people to get it all straightened out, but they were all very nice and very willing to keep plugging away.

well I am totally in love with this phone... get a lg usb cable, Bitpim, and the 1GB card and you will be as well. I would reccomend putting only ringtones and pictures on the phone memory as I hit a memmory buffer last week and pooched mine and just got done buying a new one. Use the card for mp3s and videos. Xilisoft makes a great converter which I use to put dvds on it for those lovely 3-hour lectures on psychology. You can also setup your home PC as a proxy, enter the service menu on your phone and set the WAP proxy to your own IP to bypass the $5/month fee. This is legal because the charge is for using verizin's proxy, not their routers.

Definately a great phone for a beginner phone modder. Very useable with sweet features. BTW service menu is Menu-> 0 -> then the code is all zeros.... be careful.

Got the phone, still like it. Just ordered extended life battery.
What USB cable do I need? any difference? Do I need the software with it?
Would like to transfer some ring tones and connect my laptop through the phone. Is Verison's cable and software any better than generic ones?
Thanks for help

I've had 5 in 8 months. The software/txting/camera and all other internal functions are GREAT. The hardware of the screens is the issue. I've had 3 external screens crack without the phone leaving my suit coat pocket. I've had two internal screens black out permanently. Talk about defeating the purpose of having all of the other toys in the phone!! Can't look at pix, can't look up contacts, can't read txts, etc. For a $300 phone, paying the $50 insurance that many times is ridiculous.
