I just got m 8100 and i want music on my miniSD card to play on my phone. I guess the files can't be mp3 but qcp or mid files. I am wondering which format is better and how to conver mp3 to qcp. I am looking for a progam that i can download to turn mp3 to qcp. well thanks. :)

all you have to do is at the end of the file put .mid

I have tried to rename an mp3 file to .mid and it just does not work. When using BitPim to load the file, the system automatically renames it, adding the .mp3 extension back to the file. For example, if I rename a file from [filename].mp3 to [filename].mid, the program renames it to [filename].mid.mp3

Is there any way around this? I sure hope so. A 512 meg memory card, and I can't use it...

thanks!

The handset recognizes .mp3 format or it won't work.

The Fix is quite easy if you are running Windows. I personally am using Windows XP Pro SP2. Open up your My Documents folder > Hit tools > Folder Options > View > Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" > Hit apply. Now locate the mp3 you want to rename and change the .mp3 at the end of its filename to .mid or .qcp It's that easy. You can also take your phone to Verizon now and have the ROM flashed and get the new operating system which allows playback of mp3's using the mp3 player in the phone (buttons on front of 8100 now work). Hope I helped.

1st..make sure you installed the driver into ur cp, for it to recognize the added cable...if you have to if ur window version does not recognize the port, you will have to use the add hardware option in your cp to look for the cable. once you find the hardware option that you are trying to install, you will have to manually install the driver for that hardware. once the cp recognized the new hardware, you will need to install the software or program that came with ur cable, usually a disket or cd. once the software is installed, you will have to configure the software to the right port where the cable is plugged into. it will take a little time if you are not cp knowledgable. the idea is the driver and software have to be installed.... good luck :)

Simplest Way to Enable Multimedia Features:
- buy a miniSD card 128MB or more (256 was $30 at BestBuy)
- buy a USB card reader (to attach to your computer - this way mac or pc) - I bought MobileMate SD+ ($22+ at Best Buy)

Enabling MP3

Menu
0
000000 (when the ?????? is displayed)
11 (Music Settings)
MP3 Enable

Formatting mini-SD (do this before placing card in any other devices)

Settings and Tools
4 (System)
4 (Manage Memory)
3 (Card Memory)
Options (lower right corner)
1 (Format Card) - your password is last 4 digits of your phone number

Enabling PLAY Shortcut Key (front panel)

Settings and Tools
1 (Tools)
3 (Shortcut Key)
2 (Play Key)
My MP3s

Ok. That is it. Now remove your mini-SD card, insert into your favoriate card reader and PC. Copy the MP3 files to the MY_MP3 folder on the mini-SD card. Insert mini-SD card back in to your VX8100 and enjoy all of your songs. To play them, hold down the play button on the front of your phone for 2+ seconds. You will see a song list and while playing a nice little equalizer display appears. You can also open your phone and the same display and controls are available.

I hope this helps you all out and good luck.

I can get the song onto the phone by using the miniSD. but the Music Player won't play the song.

Here's what happens:

If I go into "My Music List' the songs that I have transferred over are there. If I choose a song and click 'launch', it opens up the Music Player. Then when I press play The following comes up.

TM-31: There are no songs in your song library. Please enter the TELUS shop to search, preview and download music.

Just an fyi
the old ones would do mp3 the new ones will not.
for 20.00 on sale at verison you can buy headphones and software
that will easly convert your songs to a file that will make everything work very
easy. tried all the other stuff , none of it works on the new phones.
best 20 i have spent in a while.
Its that easy
Steve:rolleyes:

The old and new ones will play mp3s. Verizon will tell you that they don't, so you'll buy Vcast... but they do still have the mp3 player installed, it's just hidden, or locked. Follow the directions on the article above called "just enable the mp3 player" and it will work. I have 3 of these phone, 2 I bought in May of 2006, and one in June 2006, all after the Jan. 2006 upgrade that supposedly took away the mp3 player capacity. The salesperson at the Verizon store showed me how to unlock the 1st two, but I forgot how to do it when I bought another one yesterday (6-6-06). I called Verzion customer service and they told me there was no mp3 player on mine. Then I found the article above. Even the one I bought yesterday has a working mp3 player once I unlocked it, following to the instructions in the article above.

Same thing happened to me. I had a problem with my old cell's speaker and went to the shop to see what they can do. They said they would just replace it, so I said okay and tearfully said goodbye.(I wonder if they actually, kind of, fixed it to put in the new software and cleaned it up WITH A loose battery cover) Anyway, punched in my minisd and tried to play with my mp3 and it didn't work. It said there was nothing. This has happened to me before, so I took the card out and cleaned it(Nintendo cartage-style, you remember) and put it in and rebooted my cell. Still no luck, so I called the verizon's help. The first person I talked to what a help... but I needed to call again and got the salesman trying to sell me something and I needed. HA! went to the internet and FU salesman it worked.

(if you want to know the steps to getting it work. READ THE THREAD someone mentions the steps. Also, you don't need to buy all those stuff their optional.)

Well all I can say is that I too got a 1 gb card and it works fine. This is going to sound crazy, but it happened to me and it worked. First turn off your cell. Eject the card. (And here is the crazy part) Blow on it. It should clean what ever is causing it. Put it back in and power up your cell. Also, when you checked to see the avalible space did you find it through the tools menu. I just formated it and started putting things in it through my mobilemate that I stuck the card in.

I know it sounds like something you do on an old nintendo game, but it worked for me. I just put some new stuff on the card before leaving the house. During the ride, I notices nothing was on my card. So I did the clean the card thing and it worked.

I tried your suggestion of enabling MP3's and it worked.

After calling tech support at Verizon in which they told me to purchase the Music Essentials Kit, I was discouraged at the thought of losing another $20 bucks. What a scam!!!

I enabled MP3's and am sitting here typing and listening to my MP3's on my vx8100 with no problems.

Thanks again to whoever sent in this information!!!

Take it to a Verizon store and have them update the software.
then you will have the MP3 player.
